[ Hey he doesn't know anything about pokemon, don't judge him! He might startle a little at the rustling. His robotic hand might actually form into a pointed edge as he glares at the Exeggutor and Venusaur that just randomly appear. He might cough roughly a few times before he eases his stance and his arm shifts back into something resembling a hand. ]
What...what the hell are they then? [ He's really not sure what to make of them yet? They're pretty alien looking to him but they seem docile enough. ]
Pokemon? I don't think I've ever heard of them before. [ He will just turn away briefly to cough a little into his normal hand. He tastes the blood mixing with phlegm in his mouth and a slight grimace crosses over his features as he turns back to Erika. The cold dry air wasn't doing anything for his condition right now.
Still he'll take a few rattling breaths and nod, waving off her concern with easy dismissal. ] I'm-I'm fine. Just...not very good in this weather. It's nothing to be worried about. I've had it for a couple of years so I'm used to it.
I didn't think you would have. They seem...unique...to my world. [Sadly.] But they're invaluable friends and allies. Even though some of them look more...cute...than strong.
[And she gestures towards the entrance now.]
And if you're sick we can continue this conversation indoors. We can't have you getting more ill, now can we?
I've never come across anything like them before in the worlds I've visited, so this is a first for me. [ He'll bend down, his robotic hand on his chin, as he gazes back at the pokemon. His expression is at least that of interest.
He'll return to his normal stance after a cough off two, shaking his head in response. ] Inside might be easier on me...if you're not too put off by it.
[ Another cough as he looks towards the back door entrance to the party. Not everyone is good with crowds and loud music after all. ]
[Erika glides along towards the back door, her companions traipsing along with her.]
And I have gathered that to be the case for all but one man here. But that's neither here nor there. They're friends, and loyal, and I have little worry about my safety.
[The Pokemon let the human pass, and his sword. The largest of the bunch, a dinosaur like monster with a plant on it's back fires off a beam of burning light that scythes a path ahead of him, slowly burning through...]
You...ow!
[Being thrashed around by the wrist? Definitely hurts!]
[ Okay, so now there's creatures shooting huge beams of light. Totally normal. Except not. But he'll ignore it for now to dash at the trees instead, thankfully using the momentary distraction caused by the creature.
He'll just think about how all of this is even a thing later on.
When he gets closer, he swings his sword at the tree's branch that's holding Erika up - and at least he's smart enough that when it lets go of her a moment later, he's already moved one of his hands so that he can catch her rather than letting her fall to the ground.
He figures he should get her out of here before the trees retaliate, but first he looks down to make sure-- ]
Are you alright? [ More or less, anyway. Enough that he won't shake her up too badly if he starts moving now or something.. ]
I am SO sorry, the last two days have been insane!
[She drops into his arms lightly, and he might be surprised to feel her weight. It's...light despite her heavy looking clothes. But she's got a lean look to her, like a dancer perhaps?]
[ She really is pretty light... and it helps that Shinpachi's pretty strong for a regular human, so he figures he won't even have to put her down. It'd just be wasting time when they should probably get out of here before the trees start on attempt #2. The only thing he does is sheathing his sword so he can properly carry her with both arms, and then he turns around to try and dash out of the tree's range.
Sorry, rest of the critters, his hands are literally full right now.. you've got to make it out of there on your own. ]
You've gotta be careful in a place like this.. anything can be dangerous.
[ They words are a little mumbled since he's saying them as he's trying to get out of there with her, but they're still audible to her. ]
[She murmurs the words back as she leans against his chest, wrapping her arms around him to secure herself much more tightly. It's not that she wants to be carried, but she's not really dressed to go running quickly through the bushes and brambles.
The creatures, on the other hand, seeing their trainer safe? Start to move inward around Shinpachi, forming a screen to cover both him and her. No trainer of theirs is going to be hurt while they can help it. And no rescuer either. The plants themselves somewhat abate, though, possibly shocked by the onslaught of Pokemon attacks and swords.
And it's not a moment later before they all burst out into the open, a clearing overlooking the pond, and the path back to the party...]
[ It's only when he's standing there in the open for a moment and realises that in fact no more trees are attacking them that he slowly puts her down, doing it carefully so she doesn't fall down the moment she's on her feet again. ]
There we go.
[ What a way to meet, right.. although Shinpachi seems to be a lot more casual about it now they're out of danger - danger is his daily life back home, this stuff is nothing new to him. ]
You doin' okay? And.. uh..
[ He half-turns to glance at the creatures that moved along with them, blinking at them. They did seem protective of the woman, so maybe they're her.. pets? Something like that? ]
[Erika nods as she smooths out her clothes, tugging out wrinkles and looking over at her Pokemon companions. They all swarm around her, nuzzling and hugging her, crowding them both. Taking their trainer is a big, big no no...]
I'm just fine. And they are too. No harm done. [She flexes her bruised wrist a bit though.]
Nothing permanent anyway. Thank you for the assistance, sir.
No problem, it's what I'm here for. [ Okay, so maybe the Shinsengumi technically isn't charged with protecting this place as much as they were back home with Kyoto, but Shinpachi just feels an instinctive kind of need to protect people all the same. ]
Although this incident didn't seem so harmful to begin with, so maybe you got lucky.. for the better, though.
[ Erika definitely doesn't seem like a person who deserves to get hurt. ]
Even if you already had a little help with you. [ Like creatures firing huge beams.. who even knows, man. Weird future stuff, probably. ]
[Who, Erika? She’s a sleeping sweetie, and nothing bad deserves to happen to her ever ever. Her Pokemon would completely agree, too. She is the nicest nice girl that ever did nice. Except, y’know, when you make her angry. All the same, she smiles and bows politely]
My Pokemon had it well in hand, but assistance is never unappreciated. My name is Erika, and I owe you a debt of gratitude.
Nah. [ He quickly shakes his head. ] You don't owe me anything, really. It's only human nature to help each other when someone's in trouble.
[ Except not really, and he does know there's some real shitty people out there, but that doesn't mean he won't insist that this is just The Right Way Of Doing Things and won't accept anything in return for it. ]
Still-- it's nice to meet you. I'm Shinpachi, Nagakura Shinpachi. Nice to meet you as well, even if the circumstances're a little weird.
Oh, he's got plants bowing at him. What does he even do at that?! He stares at the plants in a sort of confused near-panic for a moment or two before he carefully just tries.. bowing.. back at them..??
Is this what he's supposed to do. Is this the kind of politeness you're supposed to show creature-plants. ]
[ That's a lot of names to remember all at once.. but he'll try his best. Something like that. Even if they have double names. ]
So it's something like animals.. except.. plants. [ He's trying to make sense of this, give him a moment. Since they do walk around, and he's never seen a plant do that. Hell, there's probably not even any of those outside of Japan anywhere. ]
